The well-known anime streaming service Crunchyroll recently reached a settlement in a user privacy lawsuit. Crunchyroll allegedly violated the law by disclosing personal information without consent, according to the lawsuit.
Others, including Salvador Beltran Jr. and Eli Gross, initiated the lawsuit. Crunchyroll was alleged to have been in violation of the United States Video Privacy Protection Act.
Crunchyroll faced allegations of improperly disclosing subscriber information to companies such as Facebook without obtaining prior consent. Sony Pictures Entertainment, the parent company of Crunchyroll, and Crunchyroll both denied these allegations but chose to resolve the lawsuit to avoid further legal trouble.
The agreement came into force on September 15, 2023. Those who subscribed to Crunchyroll in the United States and utilized the platform from September 8, 2020, to September 20, 2023, may qualify for a payment of approximately $30. As of now, the precise quantity is under review.
In order to be eligible for the reimbursement, a claim form must be completed by December 12, 2023. Specific information will be requested on the form in order to verify your eligibility.
Diverse consequences may result from this settlement for Crunchyroll. It might be a minor issue or a significant reputational setback. The passage of time will determine.
