With Netflix expected to premiere a variety of shows spanning genres and styles, anime lovers in North America and Europe have much to look forward in October. Offering something for every anime fan, the streaming behemoth will present both classic works and much awaited new series.
Leading the charge are many well-known adaptations such Science Saru’s DAN DA DAN, a dynamic combination of action, supernatural, and romance, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, animated by Powerhouse Animation, bringing to the small screen a renowned video game icon. Blue Box, created by TMS and Telecom Animation Film, will thrill sports and romance buffs by delving into the touching relationships between athletics and young love. The way Mappa Studios adapted the venerable martial arts comedy Ranma 1/2, which has delighted viewers for decades, adds to the thrill.
Rounding out the list is Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, which carries on the epic tale of mobile suits, and Isao Takahata’s heartbreaking masterwork, Studio Ghibli’s Grave of the Fireflies.
Netflix has deliberately staggered the release of these films so that anime enthusiasts would have something fresh to watch all through the month:
Whether your interest in movies is for gigantic mecha battles, moving historical dramas, or spooky action, Netflix’s October anime program offers fascinating choices.
For fans of anime, October looks to be an interesting month since Netflix presents a schedule that strikes a mix between nostalgia and modern new releases. There is never a shortage of material to binge from emotive tragedies like Grave of the Fireflies to supernatural action in DAN DA DAN. With every title adding a different taste to the mix, the releases this month will appeal to a large audience of anime buffs.
