Ronin Welcomes Ragnarok: Monster World

The classic Ragnarok Online gaming franchise is making its way to Ethereum through a partnership between developer Gravity and Ronin, a sidechain gaming network. Gravity will be launching Ragnarok: Monster World, a strategy game set in the Ragnarok Online universe, on Ronin.

What is Ragnarok: Monster World?

Ragnarok Online is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that has been downloaded over 167 million times worldwide since its debut in South Korea in 2002. Now, the game is making its blockchain debut with Ragnarok: Monster World, developed by Web3 studio ZERO X AND. This game combines tower defense and monster collection elements and was first announced in December.

The Ronin Effect

Trung Nguyen, CEO and co-founder of Sky Mavis, the studio behind the Ronin network, shared that Ragnarok holds a special place in the hearts of many in South East Asia, including their own team members who were avid fans growing up. They are excited to see how the ‘Ronin Effect’ will impact Monster World and transcend gaming culture through cutting-edge technology.

What to Expect in Ragnarok: Monster World

Set to launch on Ronin in Q3 2024, Ragnarok: Monster World will allow players to tame and collect Ragmons, the game’s unique monsters. Players can train their Ragmons and participate in player-vs-player (PvP) battles to earn rewards. Future updates will bring additional features and benefits tied to community participation.

Collaboration with Axie Infinity

Seokjun Kim, founder of ZERO X AND, expressed excitement about collaborating with the team behind Axie Infinity, a game that has revolutionized play-to-earn and NFTs. By combining the skills of their Web2 team members with Sky Mavis’ Web3 expertise, they aim to strengthen the gaming and blockchain community.

The Growth of Ronin

Ronin was initially launched alongside Sky Mavis’ Axie Infinity game and has since expanded to include games from third-party studios. The network has seen increased activity with the introduction of games like Pixels, a crypto farming game, as well as support for other games such as Apeiron and The Machines Arena.
