Resident Evil is stepping into new territory—and it’s not the usual dark corridors. Aniplex has just announced Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a mobile real-time strategy game developed by JOYCITY in collaboration with Capcom. Yes, the franchise that made survival horror a household name is now experimenting with tactical gameplay.
The game will launch on iOS and Android, with global support across North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the wider Asian market.
A New Kind of Survival
Instead of dodging zombies from behind a gun barrel, players will now command units in real time. According to the official release, the game “reimagines the survival horror universe as a strategy experience,” aiming to keep the feel of Resident Evil while changing the rules.
No gameplay footage has been shared yet, but the shift in genre is a major move for a series that’s usually all about claustrophobic tension and resource management. Whether longtime fans will welcome this change or not depends on how far the game leans into its roots—or leaves them behind.

Showcase Incoming
For those curious, Aniplex and JOYCITY are hosting an online showcase on July 10 at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET. It’ll be streamed on YouTube in both English and Japanese. That’s likely when we’ll get our first real look at how Resident Evil translates into a mobile strategy game—and whether it holds on to what made the franchise iconic in the first place.
