The 3 Filipinos Heading to The International 2023

The International, one of the most prestigious esports tournaments in the world if not the most is just around the corner, and the thrill of excitement is palpable. A day more and the community will sound again this highly anticipated event.

Understanding The International: A Brief Overview of the Tournament

The International – is like the Super Bowl, World Cup, and the Oscars of the gaming world all rolled into one pixelated extravaganza. Focusing on DOTA 2, one of the games that have started it all for the gaming industry, we’ll get the privilege to watch twenty (20) triumphing teams fight on a specific match format.

For those not in the know, The International is an annual Dota 2 tournament where teams from all over the world battle it out for fame, glory, and a staggering prize pool that previously, could probably fund a small country.

The Remaining Filipinos playing for The International

Despite having more than a handful Filipinos playing on The International during previous years, there are only 3 Filipino players left to play at the said tournament. Everyone else were eliminated during the previous DPC and regional qualifiers. To present the three (3) astounding Filipino DOTA 2 pro-gamers, please see the list below.

  • Abed (Abed) Azel L. Yusop – currently playing for Shopify Rebellion. Together with his long time teammates (previously under Evil Geniuses), the astounding mid-laner steps at the The International’s stage once more. Abed’s official record goes way back 2015 with the Spirit Brothers as his signature heroes.
  • Jaunuel (Jaunuel) Arcilla – taking the only slot allotted for the SEA Region during regional qualifiers, Jaunuel playing support for Team SMG tops other contenders truly when it matters most. With his signature heroes Phoenix, Oracle and Grimstroke we look forward to where the greatness of their reformed team will take tem.
  • Kim (Gabbi) Villafuerte Santos – last but definitely not the least, Gabbi joins Entity just last July of 2023. With his carry/offlaner role, Gabbi together with the rest of Entity proves naysayers that they got what it takes to play at The International as they dominated the upper bracket during the last qualifiers.

Despite having few representatives of the country, the night is still young as The International’s group stage starts October 13, 2023, 1:00 AM (GMT+8). Drop the team you’re rooting for at the comment section and let’s watch in awe for the next team to lift the Aegis of the Immortal.
