After years of waiting, the sequel to the beloved sports anime Haikyuu is finally here! The first of the two “Haikyu!! FINAL” films has hit theaters in Japan, and fans are flocking to see the epic showdown between Karusuno High and Nekoma High volleyball teams.
The movie premiered on February 16 in Japan and had an incredible opening day, surpassing even the popular Demon Slayer Hashira Training movie. The box office collection for the Haikyuu movie reached US $6 million (around 900 million yen) on its debut, making it the fourth highest-grossing opening day film in Japan’s history.
Historical Success
The Haikyuu movie has now made its mark in Japan’s box office history, ranking behind only “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train”, “One Piece Film: Red”, and “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” in terms of first-day ticket sales.
Despite it being spring break in Japan, fans showed up in large numbers to support the film. Critics predict that the movie will surpass 10 billion yen in box office revenue by the end of its theatrical run, becoming a massive hit not only in Japan but also globally.
