The TIME100 is a list that TIME magazine compiles annually. One hundred of the world’s most consequential individuals, spanning fields as diverse as art, iconography, leadership, innovation, and pioneering spirit, are showcased in this list. Someone significant writes about everyone on the list. This year, Guillermo del Toro spoke highly of famed Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki, who was honored in the Icons segment.

Recent Achievements

Cannes Film Festival

Studio Ghibli was recently presented with the Honorary Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This was historic because it was the first time the prize had ever been presented to an ensemble rather than an individual.

The Boy and the Heron

The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki’s latest feature film for Studio Ghibli, has been a smashing success in Japan since its July 14, 2023, release. A slew of accolades have been bestowed upon the picture, including the 96th Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, the 47th Japan Academy Film Prize Award for Best Animation of the Year, the British Academy Award for Best Animated Film, and the Golden Globe for Best Animated Film.

Even another renowned filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, spoke highly of Hayao Miyazaki and his film. The Boy and the Heron, he remarked, is a masterwork that captivates audiences with its storytelling, and Miyazaki is an exceptional animator.
